THE HomeShare is the only Homeshare service in Ireland where Garda Vetting is mandatory for every Sharer. Safeguarding is embedded throughout every stage of the Homeshare journey.
Supported by dedicated Safeguarding Officers, comprehensive assessments, careful matching, clear policies and ongoing monitoring, safeguarding is not a single check or process, it is built into every stage of the Homeshare journey, from initial enquiry and assessment, through matching and introductions, to ongoing support and monitoring.
THE HomeShare is the only Homeshare service in Ireland where Garda Vetting is mandatory for every Sharer. Every Sharer must successfully complete Garda Vetting, identity verification, reference checks, an interview and suitability assessment before any introduction takes place. No exceptions.
THE HomeShare has two dedicated Safeguarding Officers responsible for overseeing safeguarding practices, supporting participants, receiving and responding to concerns, and liaising with statutory agencies where appropriate.
Before any arrangement is considered, we undertake a detailed assessment process to understand individual needs, existing supports, health and wellbeing, household circumstances, and risks and protective factors.
A safe Homeshare starts with the right match. Our matching process considers compatibility, lifestyle preferences, communication styles, household routines, expectations, boundaries and individual needs.
Safeguarding does not end once a match is made. Depending on the service selected, THE HomeShare provides regular check-ins, monthly monitoring calls or visits, family communication where appropriate, and access to a 24/7 emergency on-call support line.
We believe safeguarding should empower people to live independently, make their own decisions and remain connected to their communities. People should not have to choose between safety and independence.
At THE HomeShare, we believe that every person has the right to live safely, maintain their independence, exercise choice and be treated with dignity and respect. Safeguarding is central to our mission of enabling older people and adults living with disabilities to remain living in their own homes and communities for as long as possible.
Our safeguarding approach is guided by six principles:
THE HomeShare encourages Householders, Sharers, family members, advocates, healthcare professionals and members of the community to raise concerns if they are worried about a participant's safety or wellbeing.
All concerns are taken seriously, treated sensitively and reviewed appropriately. Where necessary, we may increase monitoring, conduct a safeguarding review, engage with family members or relevant agencies, or end an arrangement if required to protect those involved.
